Sir,
In India a person arrested is considered criminal until proven innocent and not the other way round. The police can slap \'n no: of cases and keep telling the court that the person they keep in custody is guilty and it is for the court to prove them wrong!!! bail applications even n petty cases are not decided upon \'cos the politicians and police bigwig have a stake in them. U want proof? pl. go to a state like Kerala and u\'ll know how indian judicila system has been \'executed \'(read hanged to death)in several cases.

vidya triteeya netram.One need know rocket science to agree that without knowledge one can never hope to survive or fight against odds in life. the education system which was designed according to macaulay's theories has outlived its utility.
Its time we changed ours radically. digital class rooms can revolutionise learning in this country. expose children to various ideas and encourage them to THINK AND ACT on their OWN. the thrill of discovery is the mantra to quality learning. and this can be brought about only with an immediate and urgent brainstorming on various methods and systems of aducation that suit the indian environment. out of the box thinking which means setting aside religious bias, political leanings etc. the curriculam should present genuine knowledge about this great land and help develop a sense pf belonging with pride in every indian child.
time tested methods should be retained while latest techniques ahould be adopted and adapted to suit requirements.
Mr.Kapil Sibal, i hope will take the first stride soon.

i fully agree with Mr. Kapil Sibal reg. X class board exams. they need to be scrapped. the hyped marks do no good to the students nor to the institutions. very unrealistic. secondly the compartment and failure categories make it impossible for children to tide over the depression.
Kapil Sibal should consider revamping the exam system altogether.
1.here are some ideas i would like to share.
all classes should have final exams twice a year. once in march and once in november.
2. Failure should be subject wise and not class-wise.
3. if a child say, fails in Maths he/she should sit in the previous class for maths alone and for other subjects in the next class.
4. In november the child appears for the annual exam and if he/she clears she moves to the next level and manages to clear along with the class in march she moves on without any loss of time/money.
5. at the 10th level the exam pattern should be uniform around the country and correction of papers to be done by the same teachers, maybe, under the supervision of headmaters from opther schools. only the headmasters move to other schools which would save the education board alot of paperwork/other arrangement difficulties etc.
6. at the 12th level yes, the board exam pattern should continue until the credibility of the new pattern is established.
7. a 13th grade should be introduced for students who need more time to complete their 12th papers.

Article: An Oscar completes Pinki''s smile

It was very heartening to see that a documentary made on setting a birth defect right won an Oscar.
Even in the 21st century people consider such defects an unlucky omen. very sad indeed.
I would like to tell about myself who am one with a similar defect, now 56 yrs old. Born in '52 i had cleft lip and a cleft palate by birth. My father was then doing his medical intrernship at madras medical college and my mother was 19 yrs old.following the advice of his professor my lip was corrected when i was about 4 months old. however the palate surgery was done when i attained 4 years old at Vellore hospital by one Dr. Ferguson who then made periodic visits to India to attend to such cases. The surgery was partially successful. part of the palate remained unclosed.My parents didn't want to risk another surgery and so left it at that. at the age of 10 i started using a plastic plate to cover the gap which improved my speech. At the age of 18 the dentist i consulted at Chennai got a metal plate for the palate which to this day i use!!!
I would like to tell all those who are interested in such cases certain important things. treat the child as normally as you would do any other child. My brother and sister and I grew up getting equal attention from all at home. i was sent to the best of schools and encouraged to pick up fine arts like music etc.at school i was the pupil leader and in college union president.I was always a good orator and now I am the principal of a CBSE school at Agra   |   Report abuse

sethu madhavan has been undoubtedly glued to the TV watching the mumbai carnage. it seems to have affected his mind to such an extent he isn't able to recognise terrorists from outside the country who have no love lost for this country.
If insiders had all the power to garner the support of outsiders like the LeT, Jaish etc. kashmir would long have been gone.
The perpetrators of bloody violence are none other than those who love blood shed for whatever reason.There is no logic to their deeds. they do it 'cos some loony thinks the world has to appear the way he wants to see it. and there are hundreds others who would sell dangerous goodies to him to rake in money. neither religion nor politics has any role here.
Its time they are wiped out mercilessly. they deserve to be butchered without second thought and this must be jointly done by pakistan and india with US arms support!   |   Report abuse
